Job Overview
* Plan, coordinate and conduct electrical engineering assessments, studies, inspections, investigations, designs, and evaluations for generators, power systems transformers, control associated with hydroelectric generating stations and associated infrastructure.
* Preparation of drawings, technical specifications, construction estimates, request for proposals, proposal evaluation, award, contract negotiations & administration & co-ordination, construction monitoring, resolution of contract disputes.
* Provide input to business plans, work plans, budgets with respect to project priorities, schedules and resource requirements.
* Collaborate with customers, stakeholders, consultants, contractors, and government agencies as required.
* As a technical expert in electrical engineering provide advice, guidance, consultation and services to engineering problems including:
o Motor/Pump Controls;
o Feeders, distribution and services;
o Hoists and lifting equipment;
o Other Electrical engineering matters related to projects and maintenance.
* Electrical and Protection & Control engineering matters related to projects and Operations.
* As a technical expert in electrical engineering provide advice, guidance, consultation and services to engineering problems including:
* Power Equipment;
* Respond to emergencies, equipment failure, unsatisfactory equipment performance, conduct field investigations, prepare reports, and recommend actions.
* Develop plans, standards and technical procedures for inspection, maintenance and monitoring programs.
* Serve on study, project teams or task groups.
* Investigation of safety or technical incidents.
Qualifications
* 4 year University Degree in Electrical Engineering or Applied Science at minimum;
* Unrestricted P. Eng. certification in good standing in the Province of Ontario is required;
* Minimum 5 to 8 years of equipment/systems related experience as an Electrical Engineer;
* Valid Ontario Drivers License in good standing;
* Experience working in a Hydroelectric Generating Facility is preferred;
* Experience working in an Industrial Power Systems or Utilities organization;
* Knowledge of OPG systems and plants is considered an asset;
* Hands-on experience AutoCAD is preferred;
* Experience with planning and conducting assessments, studies, inspections, investigations, designing, evaluating, construction monitoring & maintenance of electrical works associated with hydroelectric and thermal generating stations;
* Ability to Independently problem solve with methods and tools required for electrical engineering applications;
* Experience with Protection and Controls;
* Software experience associated with electrical engineering, monitoring and instrumentation; Power System Software, SCADA, Data Historians;
* Experience in analysis in electrical testing results;
* Report preparation, and strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work with people;
* A results oriented, efficient & value oriented focus, excellent verbal and written communicator, with high integrity to uphold company values including H&S, and protection of the environment;
* Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time, there likely will not be that much travel required. The Plant Engineer will provide technical support for stations that are a 4 hour drive to the east, and 7 hour drive to west from the site in Thunder Bay;
* Experience in a Hydro/Thermal plant is an asset.
