OHS Specialist
Position: OHS Specialist (Occupation Safety & Health)
Start Date: upon completion of Reliability Security Clearance
Location: Chalk River - Working on-site
Duration: 2 years with possible extensions
Summary: The focus of OSH Specialist is to support the ERM organization in the protection of people, environment, and equipment from unnecessary harm. The OSH Specialist will work with ERM project teams and Operations employees to help create a safe and healthy work environment, transfer safety knowledge to staff when necessary, and provide expert advice on appropriate controls to address hazards in the workplace.
Then OSH Specialist will support the ERM line managers and employees in implementing CNL programs and procedures towards continuous improvement and excellence in HSSE Performance.
Although initially reporting to the Director of ERM HSSE&Q, this position will be deployed to support ERM line organizations as business needs are identified.
Accountabilities/Duties
Participate in internal and external training courses as required in the ERM OSH SME Training Plan. OSH SME contributes to the ERM projects as a member of the Integrated Work Control team. Develop hazard assessments and control plans for complex project work scopes. Support contractor safety program by providing OSH expertise in areas such as the development of a Scope of Work and field oversight. With a focus of customer needs, provide timely response to OSH SME field requests. Ensure systematic oversight, support and advice to ERM projects and operations. Conduct inspections (equipment, structure, material or process) and inform management on areas identified which may cause problems/errors/defects or are not in compliance with laws and regulations governing the health and safety of individuals. Liaise with members of the Site Safety and Health Committee and mentor members on OSH elements. Participate or lead OSH related audits. Perform incident investigations to identify causes and recommend corrective action plans to prevent reoccurrence. Work may require use of different methodologies (e.g. TapRoot) to complete Fact Finding, Apparent Cause Analysis (ACA) or Root Cause Analysis. Investigate regional trends, prepare reports and draft communications (ACA, RCA).
Prepare detailed reports that include incident reports, test results, observations, potential safety concerns, corrective actions and plans to resolve concerns. As appropriate, provide input into governing OSH policies, standards, procedures and training material. Communicate and provide information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates. Support the development of internal communications (e.g. OPEX, MyCNL bulletins). Conduct OSH training sessions related to OSH elements (e.g. Hazardous Energy Control, Working at Heights). Conduct research as assigned. Collaborate effectively with other OSH and HSSE personnel. May be assigned by management to support projects outside of ERM. All other duties as assigned.
