Payroll Supervisor - Shared Services

Job Summary
The Payroll Supervisor will be responsible for managing a team of payroll and time management specialists. The supervisor will ensure payroll is produced in a timely and accurate manner, and that payroll processes are compliant with internal and external laws and requirements. This position will act as the primary contact with the vendor processing team and with various internal and external business partners to ensure legislative and accurate payroll processing. Additionally, the position will be responsible for conducting audits, running payroll reports, analyzing and evaluating data in relationship to payroll and general accounting practices and striving to always be proactive regarding payroll related items.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Accurately process semi-monthly payroll for multiple business units' salaried employees while managing the payroll process for hourly employees
- Lead the year-end payroll processing cycle, reporting/ filing all government agency deadlines and year end accounting
- Manage the semi-annual special payment processing and off-cycle payroll runs, as required
- Ensure that all remittances, deductions and dues have been handled in time and according to legislation
- Oversee audit requests as they relate to payroll accounts and remittances
- Responsible for developing/ maintaining payroll procedures, policies, and workflows that adhere to required legislation and provide high customer satisfaction. Identify and implement the appropriate process improvements where needed.
- Generate reporting as required for the internal team and the business
- Serve as subject matter expert in North American payroll processing and legislation
- Work in conjunction with Human Resources in the processing of new hires, rehires, transfers, terminations, employee benefits, etc.
- Ensure proper internal controls, system standards, policies, financial controls and audit requirements are met, monitored and maintained
- Participating in projects and other ad hoc duties as required
Qualifications: Education: University degree with Certified Payroll Manager certification or American equivalent preferred
Work Experience
- Minimum of 5 years' experience managing high-volume payroll processing in multiple provinces/ state or internationally or an HR Manager role, managing a high transactional business in multiple countries
- Experience in Canadian payroll taxation, benefits/deductions, garnishments, and reporting
- Experience in US payroll practices including multi-state processing, policy and legislative items
- Experience in a high volume, multi-entity, payroll shared service-based environment
- Experience working on ADP software and experience in ERP systems (JDE preferred)
- Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-changing and dynamic environment with evolving systems and procedures
- Change management/ process improvement experience
Knowledge Required
- Solid understanding of payroll processes and relevant legislation, source deduction and government remittance procedures
- Proven ability to prioritize, set, and meet deadlines while working under tight constraints and a strong ability to manage multiple tasks to completion at the same time
