General Description:
The E4 Engineer is an experienced professional engineer or geoscientist who applies broad engineering knowledge to deliver engineering, estimating, planning, and quality management services for medium-complexity projects and operations. This role ensures work is executed safely, on time, on budget, and in alignment with BC Hydro standards.
Responsibilities:
• Develop safe and effective engineering solutions by preparing designs, interpreting specifications, resolving technical problems, and conducting analysis on medium complexity assignments.
• Support project and operational objectives by preparing reports, proposing cost or schedule adjustments, coordinating work schedules, and recommending payment for contractor work.
• Resolve challenging technical and field engineering issues by conducting independent studies, applying engineering judgment, and recommending safe and reliable designs.
• Participate in the development of technical standards, conduct independent studies, and provide guidance to other engineering professionals to help build technical capability within BC Hydro.
• Work under BC Hydro’s Professional Practice Management Plan and apply the appropriate Permit to Practice number on sealed work. All documentation will be retained by BC Hydro in accordance with EGBC bylaws.
Must-Have Technical Requirements:
• Electrical Engineer with strong experience in reactive equipment, including HV power transformers/GSUs, shunt reactors, CVTs/VTs/PTs, CTs, and station service transformers.
• Ability to provide technical support to field operations, including troubleshooting equipment failures.
• Demonstrated experience analyzing inspection, diagnostic, commissioning, and acceptance test results to provide recommendations and guide decisions.
• Knowledge of power system equipment such as surge arresters, AC/DC station service equipment, switchgear, circuit breakers, and disconnect switches.
Asset Qualifications:
• Experience in power system maintenance, installation, or testing/commissioning of station equipment.
• Experience in power system design for station equipment.
• Experience with MV and HV switchgear up to 550kV, GIS/GIB, metal-clad switchgear, circuit switchers, disconnect switches, station service switchgear, and station surge arresters.
• Additional experience in reactive equipment areas such as transformers, shunt reactors, CTs/PTs/CVTs, and station service transformers.
• NETA certification or similar electrical testing association credentials.
Education and Skills:
• Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) with EGBC, or registered elsewhere and eligible for EGBC registration.
• Familiarity with CAD systems and drawing standards.
• Ability to use standard industry design and analysis software.
• Intermediate proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Intermediate written and spoken English skills suited for a professional environment.
• Ability to work with BC Hydro’s Digital Sign and Seal technology; Notarius subscription may be required.
Additional Information:
• Site visits required approximately 4–5 times per year.
