Position: Environmental Inspector
Location - Sharp Hills Wind Farm, Oyen, AB
Start Date: April 2022 to End of December 2023
Summary:
The Environmental Inspector will coordinate and conduct field compliance assessments to ensure all construction activities are consistent with the needs of the organization, permit requirements, and in compliance with environmental laws and regulations.
Main accountabilities:
- Ensure construction activities are fully compliant with permits, laws, regulations, policies, plans, and procedures
- Maintain complete familiarity with the project plan, plan of the day, and all documents relating to progress on the project
- Monitor federal, provincial, and local permitting reporting requirements and ensure that they are met
- Plan and perform field inspections of work in progress
- Anticipate and minimize potential problems by maintaining current knowledge of overall project status
- Facilitate discussions to quickly resolve issues and to ensure that the quality of project components will meet all specifications and requirements
- Review plans and procedures periodically and institute changes when necessary
- Monitor all work on the project to ensure it meets contractual obligations as they pertain to environmental and permit compliance matters
- Develop positive relationships with all contractors on site in order to be able to communicate the needs of the project and keep a high sense of urgency for corrective action requests
- Maintain contact with and address local and community organizations and other interested groups regarding the project
- Address requests from government officials
- Direct field surveys performed by environmental contractors, as needed
- Conduct environmental trainings, as needed.
- Coordinate and maintain effective communications with all team members
- Maintain documentation as required by permits
- Additional duties as required
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a science-related field
- Five years of relevant experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of environmental laws and regulations in Canada and Alberta
- Experience delivering projects under the Alberta Utility Commission framework
- Experience with external communications and community relations

Physical demands & working conditions:
- Sitting/Standing/Flexibility: Ability to stand and sit for 8 or more hours when in an office environment
- Speech/Reading: Ability to speak, read, and write English proficiently and deliver a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form. Preference for candidates fluent in both English and French.
- Lifting: Ability to lift items weighing up to 10 pounds
- Vision/Hearing: Ability to understand a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form
- Safety: Ability to understand and communicate safety precautions when necessary
