Job Overview
- Assist with carrying out studies and research related to Indigenous programs. policies, and approaches that would support OPG's Indigenous Relations program. Assist with reviewing and updating policies, standards and manuals.
- Assist in the updating and tracking of the bi-annual Indigenous Relations program report; collaborate with stakeholders internal to OPG to report on the Program. as required.
- Assist with developing and coordinating seminars and workshops, within OPG that educate staff on Indigenous Rights and create an awareness of the Ontario Power Generation Indigenous Relations Programs.
- Assist with benchmarking initiatives with internal staff and external organizations; assist with the organization of the results for the Director.
- Assist with maintaining the Indigenous Relations websites (both intranet and internet), to ensure it provides information on OPG's related Indigenous relations activities.
- Assist with the planning, organizing and execution of internal and external Indigenous Relations events. including but not limited to: OPG's National Indigenous Peoples Day and John Wesley Beaver awards celebrations.
- Follow and provide updates on media announcements and government policy updates involving and/or effecting Indigenous communities, associations, and businesses.
- Assist with preparing reports. presentations, and briefing notes. Assist with the development of training material/content.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
- Requires knowledge of English, Social Sciences, Environmental Science, Native Canadian studies, Finance and Law, as well as a strong understanding of Indigenous history, perspectives and protocols.
- This knowledge is necessary to conduct research studies related to Indigenous programs, review and interpret historical information from source documents, and evaluate impacts of government policy changes on internal policies, standards and manuals.
- Knowledge of communication theories and skills is required to assist with preparing reports and proposals. developing and coordinating seminars and related learning content, as well as communicating and maintaining relationships with all levels of management.
- This level of knowledge is normally acquired by successful completion of a 4 year university degree in a related field such as Social Sciences.
EXPERIENCE
- Requires related experience in the areas of Community Relations, Project Development, Environment, Water Management or Policy Development in order to assist with reports and proposals, research policies and programs and participate in benchmarking activities.
- Requires related experience to conduct research studies on government policies and evaluate impacts to internal policies. standards and manuals.
- Requires demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills in order to participate on interdisciplinary project teams, and to develop and present communications.
- A period of over 2 years and up to and including 4 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
