Engineering Manager, Fuel Channel

Reporting to the Director of Reactor Components and Mechanical Engineering Division, the Fuel Channel Discipline Engineering Manager will be assigned to work on large scale projects and will be laterally reporting to the Project Engineering Manager and Project Director. Fuel channel engineering manager will be responsible for all aspects of engineering, as it relates to design engineering of Fuel Channel and Calandria Vessel.
A Discipline Manager is expected to have experience in reactor design engineering including an understanding of the design engineering process and engineering requirements for construction.
How will you contribute to the team?
To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for but not limited to the following.
- Accountable for all technical aspects of the project.
- Responsible for oversight of the engineering design activities related to fuel channel and calandria vessel of Candu reactors.
- Supervise an engineering team of designers, analysists, and subject matter experts to ensure work progresses with safety and quality in mind while adhering to schedule, cost, and contractual requirements.
- Provide mentorship to the engineering team as needed.
- Escalate critical issues to the PM and PEM.
- Provide mentorship to the engineering team as needed.
- Set priorities and ensure leads and staff are working on prioritized scope of work.
- Raise any scope change issues (either requested by the client or discovered internally due to technical findings) to the PM and PEM.
- Lead assigned engineers to find solutions for the issues. If needed, engage additional help from Functional Engineering to seek issue resolution.
- Foster a good working relationship with staff, and managers in the Reactor Components and Mechanical Engineering Divisions as well as other Divisions.
- Define the project resource demand, and work with the relevant functional managers who will assign the engineering resources.
- Responsible for developing project scope and deliverable definition in compliance with the governing contract documents, quality requirements for the project and any additional customer requirements
- Review and approve project related documents/drawings and ensure technical work meets the QA program and project requirements.
- Ensure that all project activities are performed in accordance with applicable codes and standards and company quality assurance manual.
- Form and maintain relationships with clients, partners, suppliers, and project stakeholders.
- Responsible for regular formal reporting to internal and client management stakeholders.
- Provide clear expectations and performance measures, meaningful feedback, and recognize and reward achievements
- Provides feedback and effective recommendations regarding technical staff performance to functional home.
- Makes decision/recommendation with respect to resourcing requirements on the project.
- Make decisions/recommendations on human resource issues and effectively manage and resolve work performance problems as they relate to the project.
- Ensure communication (updates) provided on progress of engineering priorities and issues for alignment and awareness to senior management etc.
What will you contribute?
- University Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Overall understanding of the CANDU reactor design.
- Demonstrated skills in the management/lead of technical projects, and leadership of a highly technical group.
- Demonstrated people skills to interact with external clients and external organizations.
- Demonstrated leadership and people skills to lead a highly techincal team in the area of fuel channel, fuel channel components and clandria vessel to accomplish the assigned project goals.
- Ability to resolve technical issues.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, and presentation skills.
- Understanding of quality assurance manuals and procedures.
- Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.
- 10 years of Candu technology experience including a minimum of 5 years’ experience in fuel channel and calandria vessel.
- Willing to visit project site to meet project needs..
