Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and practical Mechanical Designer to join our Engineering team. This role is focused on mechanical design for manufacturing, with an emphasis on custom fabricated components. The ideal candidate will have strong drafting skills, a solid understanding of fabrication methods, and a proactive approach to resolving legacy documentation and process challenges.
Your Tasks:
- Create and revise mechanical drawings using AutoCAD and Inventor for manufacturing and fabrication.
- Collaborate with solution engineers, shop floor staff, and external vendors to resolve design and production issues.
- Support process improvement initiatives, including cleanup of legacy documentation and workflows.
- Apply knowledge of tolerances and tolerance stack-up to ensure manufacturability and cost-efficiency.
- Investigate and resolve design-related issues through root cause analysis and cross-functional collaboration.
- Maintain accurate documentation and contribute to the development of standardized procedures.
- Participate in design reviews and provide input on fabrication feasibility and optimization.
Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years of mechanical design experience, preferably in a fabrication or manufacturing environment.
- Education level flexible - technician diploma to engineering degree accepted.
- Proficient in Autodesk AutoCAD - candidates will be required to complete a practical on-site AutoCAD test.
- 3D CAD experience is required, Autodesk Inventor is preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Experience with SAP or similar ERP systems is an asset.
- Experience with document management software (e.g., Vault, SharePoint) is an asset.
- Strong understanding of metalwork fabrication methods.
- Demonstrated attention to detail in drawings and documentation.
- Awareness of cost implications related to dimensioning and fabrication choices.
- Strong investigative and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently on assigned orders, with occasional collaboration on complex projects.
