Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Tiverton, ON
Duration: 1 Year (Extended annually)
Hourly Rate: $45-85/hour

The design engineer is responsible for maintaining the design configuration of the plant, make functional revisions, and develop design documentation for the safe, efficient and reliable operation of the plant. Tasks include: planning, designing, composing, evaluating, advising or reporting on any activity which requires the application of engineering principles in a Bruce Power facility. The design engineer maintains instructions and procedures up to date, prepare reports, review proposals from external organizations. Participates in training and development programs as required. On a period basis, supervises assigned staff involved in the above activities.
Note: The engineer must be able to obtain their professional engineering license within five years of joining design section.
Accountabilities:
- The design engineer ensures plant design is maintained through design reviews and technical evaluations and provides solutions to plant systems/component replacements in the form of equipment technical specifications, design modifications, commissioning and testing plans, leading to turnover to operations, all while ensuring safety by maintaining the design basis for the plant.
- Prepares project cost estimates, project schedules. Return on investment determinations for design activities. Consults with experts internal and external to Bruce Power for design activities. Consults with internal and external to Bruce Power for design solutions, design evaluations, equipment evaluations, project feasibility, costs and schedule estimates etc.
- Prepares reports to provide information and data in answer to internal and external request or for historical purposes. Initiates studies or investigations where opportunities for improvement are apparent. Prepares reports for distribution to various groups, outlining technical details of test, proof of concepts procedures, processes, results or conclusions and the roles played by various groups. The foregoing may include delivery of presentations to peers, committees, review boards, and management. Provides explanations and answers to questions from recipients of reports.
- Reviews proposals received from internal or external sources related to assigned tasks. Discusses proposal within originator (as necessary) to suggest changes or revisions. Recommends disposition of proposal to supervisor in writing for review and forwarding to approving authority.
