Technical Lead, I&C / Electrical Engineer
Location: Markham, Ontario (Alternatively, can work from the Kincardine office)
In-Office: Hybrid
Duration: 2 Year Contract (Ideally convert to full-time permanent)
Hourly Rate: $90 - $120/hour
We are seeking a Technical Lead in Instrumentation & Controls/Electrical in Markham with extensive experience in the Ontario nuclear industry. You will provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary teams, ensuring delivery of high-quality design packages while maintaining standards for safety, compliance, and technical excellence. You will be part of a growing team that is embedded in the transformation of Ontario’s Nuclear fleet, working on critical projects, some of the most ambitious clean energy programs in the world.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the electrical/I&C engineering design team to ensure high levels of performance and productivity.
- Develop and implement design strategies, objectives, and processes.
- Coordinate with other departments to ensure seamless project integration.
- Conduct design reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
- Identify and implement improvements in design processes and tools.
- Mentor and develop team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
- Resolve technical issues and provide guidance on complex design challenges.
- Collaborate with clients and stakeholders
- Manage external partnerships and resources related to design activities.
- Lead and oversee the development of I&C/Electrical engineering deliverables such as DSDs (Descriptive System Document), loop diagrams, logic narratives, instrument indexes, and system architecture.
- Act as technical lead on projects or major work packages, coordinating design execution and managing interfaces with clients and other engineering disciplines.
- Ensure compliance with nuclear regulatory requirements (CNSC, CSA N-series standards) and client specifications.
- Support proposal development, scope definition, estimating, and scheduling activities.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior and intermediate engineers.
Technical and Industry Experience:
- Lead level of I&C/Electrical engineering experience, with at least 5 years in the nuclear industry.
- Must have experience leading projects.
- Proven track record on OPG and/or Bruce Power projects is mandatory.
- Expertise in nuclear design standards including CSA N285, N286 and N299 series.
- Experience with safety-class systems, trip logic, control system upgrades, and DCS/PLC architectures.
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, or Control Systems Engineering.
- Must be licensed as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario.
Required:
- Must have lead-level direct experience supporting nuclear projects at OPG and/or Bruce Power and managing a team of engineers.
- Must be eligible for nuclear site security clearance.
