Job Overview
- We are seeking a qualified Design Engineer with OPG Design Engineering experience in the OPG ECC (Engineering Change Control) process to join our teams. Opportunities are available in Fuel Handling Design, Mechanical Design, Civil Design, and FINCOE (Fix It Now Center of Excellence), and we welcome applicants from all engineering disciplines (Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls).
- Lead and/or support the development, review, and implementation of engineering design changes, modifications, and upgrades in accordance with OPG’s ECC process.
- Prepare, review, and approve engineering documents, including specifications, calculations, drawings, and technical reports, ensuring compliance with regulatory and OPG standards.
- Perform technical assessments, field walkdowns, and evaluations to support project scope development and problem resolution.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including Operations, Maintenance, Projects, and external vendors—to ensure successful delivery of engineering solutions.
- Provide technical oversight and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
- Ensure all engineering work is conducted with a focus on safety, quality, and operational excellence.
- Support root cause analysis, corrective actions, and lessons learned for operational events or equipment failures.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation for all design activities and changes.
- Participate in project meetings, design reviews, and risk assessments as required.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and adherence to OPG’s values and standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, or Instrumentation & Controls) from a recognized institution.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario, or eligible for PEO registration.
- OPG Design Engineer qualification (mandatory).
- Demonstrated experience with the OPG ECC (Engineering Change Control) process.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant engineering experience in the nuclear, power generation, or heavy industrial sectors.
- Strong technical writing, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional and multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with OPG engineering standards, regulatory codes, and procedures is an asset.
- Proficiency with relevant engineering software and tools (e.g., AutoCAD, AssetSuite, engineering calculation tools).
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
