Field Construction Coordinator – Power
Locations: Plattsburgh, NY or Auburn, NY
Contract: 12-month contract with annual renewals
Pay Rate: $65–$75/hour
The Opportunity
We are seeking a Field Construction Coordinator (FCC) to support power utility projects in Plattsburgh, NY and Auburn, NY. In this role, you will support field execution activities, work closely with Project and Construction Managers, and help ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and in compliance with quality and regulatory requirements.
This position plays a key role in coordinating on-site construction activities across transmission, distribution, substation, and underground utility projects.
Role Overview
The Field Construction Coordinator supports the Project Manager and Construction Manager in the coordination and supervision of all on-site construction activities. Responsibilities include managing construction progress, contractor performance, safety, quality, and regulatory compliance, while ensuring field execution aligns with approved scope, schedule, and customer standards.
Key Responsibilities
Construction Oversight

Monitor construction progress and coordinate schedules with project leadership.

Lead weekly project meetings and verify contractor two-week lookahead schedules.

Observe on-site contractor activities and report field issues and public complaints to the Project Manager.

Review contractor invoices and material deliveries for completeness and accuracy.

Maintain accurate daily logs, as-built drawings, and project documentation.

Support resolution of construction discrepancies with engineering and contractor teams.

Initiate and manage outage requests through E-STAR / CONVEX systems.

Ensure compliance with Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (M&PT) standards in public rights-of-way.

Support project closeout through documentation finalization and material reconciliation.
Safety Management

Review contractor Health and Safety Plans (HASP).

Conduct safety briefings, daily site observations, and weekly inspections.

Ensure visitor orientations are completed and escort protocols are followed.

Investigate and report incidents, near misses, and safety violations.

Recommend and monitor corrective and preventive actions (CAR/PAR).
Environmental Compliance

Review and update Environmental Management Plans (EMP).

Perform daily environmental checks and provide weekly inspection reports.

Ensure compliance with permit conditions and coordinate with regulatory inspectors.

Report and support investigation of environmental incidents.
Quality Assurance

Track contractor redline mark-ups and confirm current IFC drawing revisions.

Review and verify contractor test data, materials received, and permit compliance.

Conduct pre- and post-energization inspections and document quality findings.

Support SAP data tracking, ProjectWise documentation updates, and final as-built submittals.
Qualifications & Experience

Minimum 5 years of experience in utility field operations.

Strong knowledge of utility construction practices for transmission, distribution, substations, and underground networks.

Experience with contractor oversight, inspection, and quality assessment.

Familiarity with utility materials, asset health evaluation, and inspection programs.
Technical Skills

Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Access, MS Project).

Experience with SAP preferred.

Ability to walk transmission rights-of-way and distribution lines in varied terrain.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Willingness to travel moderately to extensively within the service area, including overnight stays.
Certifications & Requirements

Ability to pass background check per contractor requirements.

Valid driver’s license.
-
First Aid / AED certification.
-
OSHA 30-hour safety certification.
