About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to support nuclear generation and refurbishment operations in Ontario. The successful candidate will bring CANDU or nuclear station experience and deep expertise in pressure boundary systems, piping design, heat exchangers, and mechanical component assessments within a regulated nuclear environment.
This position focuses on front-end engineering within the Engineering Change Control (ECC) process and requires a thorough understanding of nuclear governance, safety culture, and configuration control.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support mechanical system design, modification, and maintenance activities for nuclear plant systems and components.
- Provide engineering expertise on pressure boundary systems, piping layouts, valves, pumps, heat exchangers, and mechanical supports.
- Develop and stamp engineering calculations, design drawings, and specifications in accordance with ASME, CSA, and nuclear codes and standards.
- Execute front-end engineering deliverables of the ECC process, ensuring constructability, maintainability, and safety are fully integrated.
- Support troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of mechanical system issues; develop corrective action and disposition plans.
- Apply configuration control and temporary modification (TCC) processes to ensure safe, compliant plant operation.
- Interface with multi-disciplinary teams, contractors, and project stakeholders to deliver scope on time and within standards.
- Ensure strict adherence to nuclear safety, quality assurance, and regulatory requirements.
- Mentor junior engineers and technologists, fostering technical growth and adherence to engineering governance.
Experience & Skills
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario (in good standing).
- CANDU or nuclear power plant experience (required).
- Proven knowledge of pressure boundary design, piping stress analysis, and mechanical system integration.
- Experience developing and executing ECC packages, including calculations, design documentation, and field engineering support.
- Strong familiarity with ASME Section III / VIII, CSA N285, N289, and N286 standards.
- Experience with mechanical components and systems such as pumps, valves, piping supports, and heat exchangers.
- Ability to stamp calculations, isometrics, and design deliverables in compliance with nuclear QA/QC requirements.
- Solid understanding of configuration management, safety culture, and engineering governance in a nuclear setting.
Qualifications
- B.Sc. or higher in Mechanical Engineering.
- P.Eng. (Ontario) – required.
- Eligible for site access clearance within a nuclear facility.
- 5+ years’ experience in mechanical engineering within nuclear, energy, or heavy industrial environments.
