Responsibilities:
- Lead, plan, perform, document, review, and/or verify technical analyses that includes:
- the use of radiation transport codes,
- performing dose calculations, and/or
- application / development of activity transport models.
- Produce high quality reports effectively summarizing technical information and present results to internal and/or external stakeholders.
- Collate, assimilate, and summarize results from existing analyses.
- Follow the relevant procedures, guidelines and standards governing the work being performed.
- Develop, adapt, or modify computer codes for specific applications and to solve new problems.
- Attend and participate in meetings at the office, remotely, or at client sites as needed.
- Continually improve skills through instructor-led courses and/or on-the-job training.
Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in Physics, Engineering Physics, Nuclear Engineering, Health Physics or equivalent. Minimum of eight years of experience with radiation transport, performing dose calculations, activity transport and/or dispersion models (less experience required if candidate possesses an advanced degree).
- Experience with the computer codes MCNP, SCALE, or ADDAM (equivalent codes acceptable, ability to program especially in python, PERL, MATLAB, C++, or Fortran. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite of programs especially Excel and Word.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize work, adhere to schedules, respect budgets, and respond to changing demands. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present technical material effectively.
- Working knowledge of project management practices, work processes, and associated technologies. Possess a high degree of initiative, be self-motivated and have a demonstrated commitment to life-long-learning.
- Dedication to safety, integrity, and commitment to quality and willing to be designated as a Nuclear Energy Worker.
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
- Postgraduate degrees or equivalent qualifications in Physics, Engineering Physics, Nuclear Engineering, Nuclear Chemistry, or equivalent.
- Familiarity with the Linux operating system.
- Eligible to obtain license for nuclear software that falls under the US Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810 radiation physics codes, such as MCNP and SCALE.
- Experience working at a nuclear facility performing radiation transport and shielding calculations.
- Experience with rehabilitation and decommissioning activities and supporting station operations.
- Ability to develop and deliver training.
- Experience in code development including source control and testing.
- Knowledge of the nuclear regulatory framework in Canada.
- Familiarity with codes and standards applicable nuclear work in Canada.
