Position Title: Assistant Project Engineer – Lines & Interconnections
Location: Edmonds, BC / Hybrid
Contract Duration: 12 months
Max Rates: INC: $76.80/hour | T4: $63.47/hour
Overview:
An engineering consultancy is seeking an Assistant Project Engineer Consultant to work with cross-functional teams to ensure project designs are safe, effective, and compliant with regulatory standards. The successful candidate will support the execution of low- to medium-complexity transmission line projects, including overhead and underground systems up to 500kV.
Key Responsibilities:

Develop safe and compliant engineering solutions for low- to medium-complexity projects.

Perform tasks such as:

Design development and review
-
Analyzing and resolving technical issues
-
Interpreting engineering specifications
-

Support project teams in meeting safety, cost, quality, and schedule objectives by:
-
Proposing design changes
-
Recommending contractor payments
-
Coordinating schedules
-
Preparing reports and progress documentation
-
-
Conduct technical studies and analyses to support design decisions.

Provide construction support, including on-site quality control to ensure design compliance.
-
Collaborate with senior engineers to resolve complex or high-risk technical issues.

Maintain all engineering documentation in compliance with applicable professional and regulatory standards.
Specialty Focus – Lines & Interconnections:
-
Demonstrated experience in the electrical design of transmission systems (60kV to 500kV), including overhead lines and underground cables.

Prepare deliverables in alignment with standard engineering and project practices (e.g., reports, estimates, test plans, calculations).

Prepare signed/sealed documents as a Professional of Record (PoR) in accordance with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) regulations.

Conduct field reviews and provide construction support as required by EGBC.

Perform engineering studies and calculations (e.g., electromagnetic fields, grounding, lightning protection, arcing, surge arresters).

Design electrical systems for transmission lines including disconnect switches, line surge arresters, and circuit separation systems.

Provide technical review and guidance for designs prepared by others.
-
Manage design tasks, including scope, schedule, and cost control.
Qualifications & Experience:
Required:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
-
Registered (or eligible for immediate registration) as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with EGBC.

Minimum 4 years of relevant engineering experience.
-
Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
Preferred:

Experience in:
-
Substation, transmission line, or protection & control projects
-
Telecom-related projects
-
Full project life cycle: conceptual design through to commissioning

Familiarity with:

CAD systems and industry-standard design/analysis software
-
Project delivery practices in utility or large infrastructure settings

MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Field/site experience on large construction projects such as substations, hydroelectric stations, or transmission lines
Regulatory & Practice Requirements:

Must have access to a Permit to Practice through EGBC, either as a sole practitioner or via a firm.

All signed/sealed engineering work must comply with EGBC bylaws and be retained in accordance with professional regulatory standards.
