Construction Supervisor Job Description
General Functions
The Construction Supervisor is responsible for planning and executing work at the construction site. This role includes managing all site activities, conducting site meetings, and providing regular reports to the Project Manager. The Construction Supervisor typically handles small and medium-sized projects.
Job Tasks and Responsibilities
- Primary Workplace: Office on site.
- Site Mobilization: Planning and coordinating the mobilization of the site.
- Construction Execution: Planning and overseeing the construction process.
- Site Management: Directing, managing, and coordinating all on-site activities.
- Site Meetings: Conducting regular meetings to discuss progress and issues.
- Contractor Supervision: Supervising contractors working on site.
- Material Coordination: Working with the Materials Planner to ensure the provision of materials.
- Progress Monitoring: Evaluating and reporting progress against the construction schedule.
- Quality Assurance: Ensuring the quality of work and addressing deficiencies.
- Material and Equipment Coordination: Identifying necessary materials and equipment with site leads and coordinating with the Materials Planner and workgroup supervisors.
- Safety and Security: Ensuring the safety and security of the site.
- Progress Reporting: Providing regular updates to the Project Manager.
- Change Requests: Identifying change requests and handling them based on impact; escalating significant changes to the Project Manager.
- Field Change Authorization: Enforcing the Field Change Authorization process with on-site contractors.
- Stakeholder Communication: Communicating with landowners and stakeholders as required.
- Environmental and Quality Control: Ensuring compliance with environmental and quality control requirements on site.
- Project Closeout: Assisting the Project Manager with project closeout activities.
Specific Project Assignments
The successful candidate will be supervising a contractor performing a roof replacement at the Millbank Generating Station (220 McHardy Road, Miramichi, New Brunswick) from approximately July 3rd to September 6th, 2024. Subsequently, they will move to supervise a contractor performing oil tank repairs, which involve painting the inside of Oil Tank #1 at Ste. Rose Generating Station (Kenny Road, Off Route 355, approximately 3.2 km from Route 11, Sainte-Rose, New Brunswick) from approximately September 9th to October 18th, 2024. Dates may be extended or shortened based on project needs.
- Millbank Auxiliary Building Roof Replacement Project: Involves replacing existing steel roofs on lower and upper sections of the building per the scope of work, applicable standards, and technical specifications.
- Ste. Rose Tank #1 Repainting: Involves sandblasting and repainting the interior of the existing steel tank floor and wall section per the scope of work, applicable standards, and technical specifications.
The Construction Supervisor will report directly to the Project Manager. This position requires the successful candidate to accommodate the awarded contractor's work hours, which may include overtime and possible weekend work.
Mandatory Requirements
- Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible work experience in a leadership role within construction projects.
- Field Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of field experience in an industrial environment.
- Driver’s License: Possession of a valid driver’s license is mandatory.
Education and Experience Preferences
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Excel).
- Specific Experience: Experience in construction site supervision and management, with a preference for heavy industry (especially industrial metal roof replacement and diesel storage tank repairs).
- Subject Matter Expertise: Expertise and/or experience with metal roofing systems and/or painting diesel storage tanks.
- Bilingual Communication: Ability to communicate in both English and French.
- Generating Station Experience: Previous experience in a generating station is highly preferred.
