Reporting to the Project Controls Manager, the Lead Cost Controller owns all aspects of cost control for the Project including monitoring, updating and analyzing project cost, provide analysis and report cost variances and support the schedule reviews. The Lead Cost Controllers require knowledge and awareness of both planning and cost control activities and in many services level projects staff perform both planning and cost control activities.
General duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Lead the preparation of earned value analysis and progress reporting
Consolidate project reporting at both Joint Venture and Partner level
Lead the identification and explanation of variances between actual costs, plan, earned values and forecasts, and communicate to the Project Controls Manager, Project Director and to the Finance Group
Support the Project Managers and Project Director in conducting cost risk analysis on a periodic basis
Ensure proper progress measurement is in place for all areas and accounts within the Project through the whole project cycle
Work with junior, intermediate and senior cost controllers to advise and propose solutions on matters that could prevent meeting the project objectives, provide recommendations to optimize the overall project cost
Provide regular reports on Project cost status and cost deviations and recommend remedial actions
Coordinate forward looking Project and partner cash flow forecasts
Provide inputs to internal reporting
Advise on the areas of concern that could prevent meeting the Project objectives
Interface with other Project Control Team to maintain integrated cost-schedule project control system
Assist in coordinating day to day work priorities for junior, intermediate and senior cost controllers
Actively develops cost control expertise in others by providing training and coaching on work relating tasks
Special assignments, ad hoc reports and other related duties as required
What will you contribute?
Proficient in MS office suite of software, especially in Microsoft Excel
Preferably thorough knowledge of Oracle 12 Project Management
Strong knowledge of Ares PRISM G2
Ability to learn new software as per the company standard
Knowledge of project management techniques (i.e., critical path method, progress measurement and earned value technique) and experience in cost monitoring, analyzing and reporting
Strong organizational skills are required with attention to detail
Ability to establish priorities and work under pressure to meet project deadlines
Strong knowledge of the general project controls policies and procedure
Strong knowledge of the regular financial processes related to a construction or engineering project would be considered as asset
Solid report writing, communication and presentation skills
Effective problem solving skills with a results oriented approach
Strong analytical skills
Ability to work with staff, build and maintain good working relationships with Project Controls team
Ability to mentor junior and intermediate staff and work with senior project cost controller
Must have relevant post-secondary diploma or equivalent
10+ years of relevant cost control experience, experience in engineering and construction projects environment
Travel to client site as required
