General Description
* The T2- Technician / Technologist Level 2 is a technician or technologist who handles assignments of limited scope and complexity using standard procedures and techniques to support projects and/or operations at BC Hydro safely, with quality, within budget, and on time. Experience and Role Accountabilities
* A minimum of three (3) years of directly related technical work experience or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
* Contribute in maintaining the quality and efficiency of engineering solutions by performing varied technical activities and studies of limited scope and complexity which may include coordination and monitoring of small tasks in office or on-site to sustain ongoing operational requirements of BC Hydro.
* Assist with specific aspects of more complex technical activities which may include on-site construction monitoring tasks requiring accuracy in calculations, completeness of data, and adherence to prescribed analysis, design, or computation methods by following established practices and working under close supervision of a more senior technician or engineer who reviews work for accuracy, adequacy, and conformance with prescribed procedures.
* Perform research and prepare recommendations and reports for projects and operations including extracting, collecting, compiling, and evaluating data from a variety of sources, catalogues, engineering handbooks, precedent designs or studies, suppliers and other references to support completion of assigned projects. Education and Skills
* Technologist - Two (2) year diploma of technology in a relevant discipline or equivalent
* Technician - One (1) year certificate in engineering technology or equivalent * Working knowledge of engineering computer applications
* Intermediate English skills for professional environment, written and spoken
Education:
- Bachelor's education preferred, technical diploma with relevant experience also accepted. Computer Science, Math, Business Administration, Engineering included in possible education background. This is not part of an Engineer in Training (EIT) program. Masters Degrees and PhDs may not be suitable, given remuneration.
Musts for candidates:
- Well-developed analytical ability with two (2) years of demonstrated work experience in analysis and troubleshooting
- Knowledge of database queries and generating reports using SQL and other relational database programming languages and tools.
- Ability to utilize spread sheet applications such as Excel to an advanced level.
- Ability to operate ticketing (incident/problem management) systems such as BMC Remedy, ServiceNow, SalesForce.
Well-developed teamwork skills
- Knowledge of escalation protocols in order to raise trouble tickets with application management, data collection and field services groups.
Additional Skills for a strong candidate:
- Ability to use a variety of Smart Metering specific applications particularly those from Itron and Cisco: OpenWay Reporting System (ORS), OpenWay Collection Engine (CE), Field Network Director (FND) [formerly known as Connected Grid Network Management System (CG-NMS)], and Grid Director. There are similar applications for products from other Smart Metering companies such as Landis & Gyr, Silver Springs, GE, and others.
- Understanding of rates and billing in an Enterprise System, i.e. SAP.
- Familiar with large information systems; file and data management; file transfer and processing protocols.
- Understanding of utility grid operations protocols and procedures.
- Understanding of electric fundamentals, including volts, amps, kWh, demand, phases, and an understanding of power factors for Commercial and Industrial (C&I) customers.
