Job Summary
As part of the Shared Services team, the Accountant will be responsible for preparing and assisting with monthly, quarterly, and year end activities. This role will be responsible for completing various accounting duties including but not limited to ERP account administration, fixed asset administration, journal entries, reconciliations, Intercompany transactions and accruals. The role requires accounting and systems knowledge and helps to ensure corporate policy, regulations and service standards are adhered to while processing daily accounting activities.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensures timely and accurate recording of general ledger transactions and of month close procedure for all Business Units
- Responsible for ERP account administration including but not limited to setting up and reviewing cost codes for new and ongoing projects
- Creates asset master record, assigns appropriate depreciation method based on Redpath Group's Property Plant and Equipment policy, and ensures reporting requirements are adhered to
- Liaises with Business Unit and Treasury to ensure asset lease is accurately booked, if applicable
- Ensures useful life of asset is reassessed and appropriate depreciation rate is used after every betterment process
- Ensures disposed asset is properly recorded
- Administers all banking transactions and prepares weekly cash reports for all Business Units
- Responsible for month-end account reconciliations
- Assists in the preparation of financial statements, audits, and any other monthly/ quarterly /annual reporting requirements
- Assists in administering insurance renewals
- Communicates with Business Unit to follow up, clarify information or resolve issues and discrepancies - liaises with Business Unit and management for resolution
- Maintains effective working relationships with the direct team and maintains strong relationships with key members of the Business Units
- Participates in projects and other ad hoc duties as required
- Provides back-up for other accountants and administrators in the shared service centre as required
Qualifications: Education:
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Business Administration or related disciplines
- Preferred: University degree in Accounting or Business Administration, working towards a professional designation
Work Experience
- Minimum of 3 years' experience of full cycle accounting in a Shared Services environment
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to process high volume transactions
- Experience in organizations undergoing change or rapid growth
- Experience working in projects in multi-country operations
- Experience in ERP systems (JDE preferred)
- Change management/ process improvement experience
