MANDATORY QUESTION - Are you eligible to obtain a Government of Canada Security Clearance that is required for this position? To be eligible, you must be a Canadian Citizen as well as have resided in Canada for 10+ years.
Working closely with the Vice President and the senior leadership team, the successful Director, Business Development candidate will be responsible for identifying, cultivating, and winning new business within the Canadian defense market, specializing in, but not limited to, aerospace supply chain management, integrated logistics support, and engineering support services. In addition to their focus on the company growth, the candidate will work closely with the Global Defense and Security Solutions (GDSS) sector VP of Growth to develop and maintain a multi-year pipeline and introduce relevant to US corporate capabilities to the Canadian market.
Strategic Growth Activity
- Prepare Canadian market strategies and long-range Business Development plans for review with Canada division, Vice President, the Senior Leadership team and GDSS sector leadership.
- This includes recurring assessments of the Canadian defence market, building a pipeline of relevant opportunities and qualifying them, business acquisition process (BAP), developing call plans and leading customer engagements, securing partnerships, and coordinating/leading/managing opportunity capture plans.
- Maintain an awareness of the Department of National Defence (DND), Canadian defence industry, economic and political environment as it relates to business opportunities and pursuit risk/impact.
- Maintain a current and complete knowledge of In-Service Support/Sustainment opportunities and capabilities.
- Network within the In-Service Support/Sustainment target market and communicate our organization capabilities and services to ensure the development of robust pipeline of opportunities.
- Supply sound business judgment, innovation in approaching business challenges and the ability to translate a strategic plan into operating results.
- Initiate and maintain positive relationships with the client/potential client(s) to monitor current and future opportunities, tracking opportunities and market trends.
- Develop customer relationships to expand market.
- Advise at a strategic level on tactical-level execution of opportunity-specific capture.
- Travel to Customer locations, our offices, and Head office to strengthen relationships and create pipeline of opportunities (estimated at 25% of the time).
- Work routinely with VP Growth for GDSS Sector to build and maintain an accurate pipeline.
Minimum Qualifications:
- BSc/BA
- Minimum of 10 years DND BD experience.
- 10 years’ experience in selecting, motivating, and developing support staff.
- Solid understanding of new business identification, qualification, capture, bid and proposal.
- Understanding of Capture Plan preparation and execution of opportunity gate reviews.
- Familiarity with the relatively recent Defence Procurement Strategy.
- Knowledge of Teaming Agreement development and negotiations.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree
- Previous DND experience.
- Possesses DND and PWGSC Customer intimacy as well as overall expertise in DND/PWGSC organizational structure, buying methods, existing and emerging deals, and competitive playing field.
- Good understanding of the DND marketplace (customer needs, preferences, policies, and operational concepts).
- Experience using lead tracking system/CRM database.
- Documented “win list” to include multiple large awards in the defence or other government markets within last 5 years.
- Sales funnel and discretionary resources financial management.
