Project: 345kV Transmission Line Project
Overview
- The successful candidate will be the On-Site Project Manager with on site duties during the execution of the project, as per the position description. The project consists of the construction of a new 345 kV transmission line from the Salisbury Terminal to the Memramcook Terminal then continue to the Nova Scotia boarder. The new line is approximately 65 km line and will parallel an existing 345 kV.
- This position will be based in NBP Head Office for the first year until field work start the summer of 2025. From 2025, the position will be based in the Moncton area working from a construction trailer. The tentative start date is 2024/08/12 with an estimated completion date of 2028/12/01. This expected utilization is 100% but we can accommodate a smaller utilization rate the first year if needed.
- The successful candidate will report directly to the Sr. Project Manager. This position will require the successful candidate to accommodate the awarded contractors work hours that may include overtime hours and may include possible weekend work.
Preference will be given to candidate with:
- NB Power project experience
- Transmission line project experience
- Project management and construction management experience
ON-SITE PROJECT MANAGER General Functions
The On-Site Project Manager acts on behalf of The Company and is responsible for the overall execution of the project on the construction site. This includes all aspects of project management such as initiating, planning, implementing, closing, and monitoring all stages of the life cycle of a project from inception, approval to final acceptance and close-out. Also included are aspects on construction management such as responsibly for planning and execution of work at the construction site including managing all site activities and conducting site meetings. The On-Site Project Manager will be the Owner’s representative and lead the Owner’s on-site team.
Job Tasks and Responsibilities
- Manage and direct all aspects of assigned project.
- Primary workplace is office on site.
- Prepare and maintain detailed project execution plans, including development of project scope, schedule and budget, including input from project stakeholders as appropriate.
- Ensure the project scope, schedule and budget are managed and communicated as appropriate to all team members.
- Directs, manages and coordinates all activities on site.
- Supervises contractors on site.
- Coordinate activities of team members and stakeholders to achieve project goals.
- Conducts regular site meetings.
- Conduct periodic meetings with project stakeholders.
- Address project issues as they arise.
- Track progress of project against baseline schedule and budget and take appropriate actions if variances occur.
- Manage project risk assessment, coordinates periodic risk reviews and prepares risk management plans as necessary.
- Ensure that all project team members are focused on ensuring safe execution of the project.
- Manage change requests to scope, schedule or budget.
- Prepare regular project reports, including costs, schedule, safety and risk. Maintain records of correspondence and files as appropriate for the project.
- May be responsible for communicating with landowners and stakeholders where required.
- Ensures that any environmental and quality control protection requirements on site are carried out.
- Conducts project closeout procedures, including financial closeout, documentation wrap-up and benefits realization reporting.
Mandatory Requirements
- Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible work experience in a leadership role on a transmission line project.
- A minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a project manager.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license is mandatory.
Education and Experience Preferences
- Relevant experience in the electrical utility sector with preference given to Transmission project management specific experience.
- Experience in the following aspects of project management including schedule development, cost estimation, cost control, risk management, contract administration, and construction management.
- Experience in construction management.
- Engineering Technologist Diploma or University degree in Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preference is given to the Electrical discipline, but other disciplines will be considered.
- Formal training in project management would be considered an asset.
- Certification as a Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) or as a Project Management Professional (PMP), or working towards either certification, would be considered an asset.
- Proficiency in document creation and editing (Microsoft Office Products such as Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Excel).
- Proficiency with Primavera and/or Microsoft Project would be considered an asset.
