Quality Control Manager
Location: Port Hope, ON
Duration: 6 Months
Pay Rate: $85 – 95.00/HR (Inc’d)
Summary: This office and field position is primarily responsible for verifying compliance with quality requirements on construction, environmental remediation and hazardous waste management projects as defined by Company standards, regulatory criteria, and contractual obligations.
This role is primarily focused in managing the Quality Control program at ECC’s Long- Term Waste Management Facility project, involving construction of landfill cells, movement of low-level radioactive waste and final capping of landfill. This position will ensure the three-phase inspection of each work activity, maintain and submit records per ECC’s Quality Management System and project requirements, attend client meetings as appropriate and resolve quality control issues by engaging the project team and client representatives. Must be able to meet Canadian Nuclear laboratories security clearance requirements.
Principal Accountabilities Take appropriate action to ensure that work is performed in accordance with contract specifications, pertinent building codes & practices as well as national and local standards Ensure the implementation of contract documents and plans, actively promoting and supporting the quality control program at project sites Facilitate quality training for project staff, subcontractors, and any parties required to participate to ensure achievement of exceptional quality standards including developing training content and delivering course information Ensure the appropriate and required testing program is implemented; evaluate, review, monitor and document results Inspect and document the receipt of all materials to ensure compliance with contract documents Facilitate the submittal process, including materials, designs and plans Ensure that submittals meet the contract and project requirements and are submitted to the client as required and in a timely matter Author quality related documentation (reports, logs, and records), completing required information for daily reports and client communications in a timely and accurate manner Ensure that all documentation is organized and uploaded to the project portal Ensure implementation of the Three-Phase Control Process in accordance with Company standards and contract requirements Collaborate with Project Managers to ensure that the Three-Phase Process is integrated into project schedules Provide oversight to subcontractors, clients, and project team members to ensure that construction activities are completed according to design Report quality and safety incidents on the Company Incident Database and the project portal
Ensure implementation and documentation of corrective actions Verify implementation and close-out corrective actions Initiate stop-work or re-work in coordination with the project team in circumstances where nonconformance to prescribed work methodologies occurs Provide mentoring, direction, and subject matter expertise to Quality Control Supervisors and/or junior level staff As requested, participate in employment interviews and make hiring recommendations as needed, provide performance feedback regarding junior level staff In addition to the accountabilities above, other responsibilities, tasks, and deliverables may be assigned to the incumbent of this position
Proficiency Requirements This position requires the following: o The ability to communicate in written and oral formats with diplomacy and tact o An aptitude for exercising independent thinking and reasoning o Demonstrated knowledge of ISO:9001 requirements o Demonstrated success in teaching others quality concepts and requirements o Successful leadership of subcontractors and project teams in support of quality endeavors o Competent in using Microsoft Office products, email systems, and Windows o Minimum seven years of work experience in a position directly related to quality control managerial tasks in construction or environmental projects
Education A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Material, Industrial or Geotechnical is preferred), Construction Management, or related field is required. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for this requirement.
Preferred Proficiency Requirements o Master’s degree in engineering, Construction Management, or related field o Previous experience in landfill management and nuclear field o Familiarity with workplace health and safety concepts Applicable Certification in Quality: o CQI Certified Quality Inspector o CQM Contractor Quality Management o OSHA 30 Hour Construction Certification o HAZWOPER 40 Hour Certification and 8 Hour Refresher Certification o HAZWOPER Supervisor Certification
Physical Requirements/Work Environment This position requires the ability to utilize a keyboard and similar equipment typically found in an office environment. In addition, this position requires the following: o Intermittent exposure to repetitive motions of the wrists or hands o The ability to view a computer monitor and distinguish figures or symbols o Climbing ladders, scaffolding, or similar equipment found on a construction job site o Walking for an extended period of time o Exposure to indoor and outdoor work environments with hazards typically found on a construction site (moving vehicles & equipment, dust, low radioactive waste and potentially hazardous materials)
